The idea has been tossed around and hotly debated, namely in the recent . It's relevant to us all - but will a Human Rights Act in Australia help or hinder us?
A free public forum will be held in Adelaide on 22 May 2010 on the topic of ‘Does Australia needs a Human Rights Act?’.
Speakers supporting an Act:
Julian Burnside AO QC;
The Hon. Catherine Branson QC, President of the Australian Human Rights Commission;

Speakers against an Act:
Senator the Hon. George Brandis SC;

That sounds very interesting! Jim Allan is one of my law lecturers at uni and he is pretty vehemently opposed to an Act. If I was in Adelaide, I would definitely attend.

Lou92 even though you can't attend you can tune into ABC radio's The Law Report which will be broadcasting the debate.
