Hi!
How are you all going?
I have been inspired lately to continue with education; and I was wondering why others are interested in being involved in this profession?
Check out Ron Clark: http://www.ronclark.info/About_Ron_Clark/
A fantastic role model to base an education career on.
I would appreciated anyone else's opinions and idols as well.

Hi Siobhan :)
I also want to go into teaching!
I don't particularly have any role models, other than teachers of my own, which is a little bit too close to home for any of you to know them :)
What inspires me to teach though is the thought that I can make an impact on the lives of young people, leave an impression with them that hopefully they can carry for years to come, and they can make a real difference in the world when my generation no longer can...

Hey Tails;
Thats cool :)
I like your thinking. It's a great opportunity that I think more teachers should take to really help their students to make a difference in the world and the same that teachers should inspire the students to feel valued and how they can be valuable in society.

Exactly my point! :)
At my high school there were some BRILLIANT teachers that I am constantly looking up to. If every teacher could make that sort of impact on at least one students life, the whole education system would be so much more of a benificial place!

Fantastic! Haha; it's going to take me at least 5 more years to get there, but I'm on my way :)

Haha, I think that it's good having that time; I think that we can build skills and learn things that can improve our abilities and efforts and you will be wiser after having a few more years experience in anything. I've found that with community services, many talents become useful and I think it will be similar with teaching!

If I ever make my millions of dollars, I'm going to spend some time in Africa and create a network of schools throughout remote regions. It seems like this would be possible considering that we're way off our target of reaching those MDGs.

I am so with you greenscene. And while I'm not looking at going into the education profession, I am a huge believer in the power of education, both formal and informal. I don't think you need a teaching degree to educate someone, you just need to know your stuff.
Some of my teachers have been amazingly inspirational, but I still find my most inspiring people come from someone in this aid/development sort of field... their passion for going out and telling people about issues and their stories inspires me more than anythings =)

Exactly! You can make educated choices each day by choosing fair trade, wearing MPH shirts etc, and inform your friends of your decision to do so. If you can change someone's perspective on one particular thing, you can make the world of difference!!!
Look at Richard Branson, who is investing in alternative fuel sources and has started a environmental wing to his Virgin brand.

Hey Ryan,
Thats very nice of you. Personally, I would look at our own country and see how education in the rural areas could change the lives of many here and go for that; but education will be appreciated where ever you decide [with your millions of dollars to begin a school!

Haha gee thanks Siobhan :)
Are there organisations setting up rural schools at all in Australia? I know not all rural aborigines have the opportunity to attend school...
