well, if you look in the education section there is a topic based on a leg- wax for charity, which apparently went rather well.

empire_of_dirt and myself, based on that, have decided to do a similar thing in the adelaide hills area, possibly incorporating a local youth group to help us out.

but you guys can help!!!

if any of you know anything about the legalities of running fundraisers,
ideas for a name,
ideas for a specific cause to raise the money for,
ideas to draw volunteers,
or anything else that you can think of, then please say so here!!!

I have offered myself up on a plate to be sacrificed on the Waxing table.  We are looking to make the fundraising into a local event and hope to not only encourage people to sponsor some money but also to help raise more awareness.  We intend on getting the local council and community youth organisation on board as well as the local library who have in the past promoted a number of different community awareness talks and ideas.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.  If there are any Adelaide Hills STIRRERS around that want to help organise this, than please let me or Butterfly know.  We need all the help we can get.

I am looking forward to hearing all the great ideas from anyone who has done this before so that we can learn from your experience as well.

ok. i've emailed the local library (asking basically for advertising support), the local council (asking for details as to regulations about raising money, asking for volunteers, maybe using Keith Stevenson Park), and also World Vision (about what cause they think is most worthy/ likely to be successful and what issues will come up from this on their end, regulations etc). have i forgotten anything?

It is probably better for us to go and speak to Council and the Library in person and see if we can organise a meeting with them outlining our plans and see if they will support us from there.  Besides that I think we should also go and speak to the youth officers in the Community Health Centre about what support they can give us.

Start with answering this - then look into the legalities & how to promote.

Primary Aim: (fundraising? Advocacy? both?)
Where will it be held?
When (roughly)?
Who will attend? (age, etc)
Who will donate?

Just an idea -you could check with SA Vgen and see what support is there...

"wax for water" has a bit of a ring to it, don't you think? we should be able to find a water thing somewhere if we chose.

I'm sure we will be able to find something like that.  I am disappointed to say that I have not found SA VGen to be very lively.  I sent them an email ages ago asking about becoming involved and have yet to hear a response.  I'll try them again and see what they might be able to do for us.

I think that we do need to work a few things out and from there we can get some concrete ideas for all to consider.

hey guys,

sounds like an awesome plan - im sure there are heaps of vgenners who would be keen to help out. I have a feeling that a couple of our active members who are on the 'make indigenous poverty history' (MIPH) team are based up in the hills direction and have been looking to do some fundraising to fly a speaker out - so maybe you could hook up with them.

Im totally happy to help out but what i suggest (before approaching council etc) is putting together a brief proposal-like description of what you want to do and how you want to run it. VGen SA will be having a big organisation meeting in late feb/early march to launch the year and you guys could come along and talk about your ideas to the whole team - that way anyone interested can get on board and you guys would have more support from some of the older members who are more experienced in running this kind of stuff. I think this is prob the best way to go since there will also be a new leadership team so its better that they are on board with this.  Alternatively, if you dont want to wait that long - put a description together and i can email it out to everyone.

If you email me i can put you in contact with the MIPH crew to help kick start things. hope this is cool with you guys - and is of some help.

you guys are awesome - lovin the enthusiasm.

my email: sa.chair@vgen.org (for now anyway)

peace my friends x
